SHANGHAI February 22, 2016; Japan Today Reported that China's auto sales rose nearly 8% year-on-year in January ahead of national holidays, an industry group said Friday, picking up pace in a traditionally strong period for car purchases. China is the world's largest car market, but its vehicle sales increased at their slowest rate in three years in 2015 as the country's economy encountered headwinds.

Car dealers have reported a 50 per cent jump in sales for the smaller Category A cars, after the latest COE bidding exercise on Wednesday. SINGAPORE: Sales of Category A cars are up 50 per cent in the past week compared to the previous two weeks, said car dealers, as Certificate of Entitlement prices for these smaller cars dipped to their lowest levels since March 2011.

New car sales in China rose by more than 9 percent last month as strong demand for SUVs offset a decline in sales of sedans, an industry group reported Friday. Sales of cars, SUVs and minivans in the world's biggest auto market totaled 2.23 million vehicles in January, up 9.3 percent from a year earlier, according to figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
