Samsung plans second foldable phone with clamshell design in early 2020 - report

(Telecompaper) Samsung is preparing to unveil its second foldable device early next year, a luxury phone that folds down into a compact-sized square, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. The device comes with a 6.7-inch inner display that shrinks to a pocketable square when it's folded inward like a clamshell.

Samsung unveils first 'mid-range' 5G smartphone

(Telecompaper) Samsung has unveiled the first 5G phone in its mid-range Galaxy A series just a few weeks after launching the flagship Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy Note 10 5G devices. In a statement, Samsung said the new Galaxy A90 5G will offer future-proof connectivity at a more affordable price that will be officially announced when the handset is launched in South Korea on 04 September, before expanding to additional markets thereafter. The company did reveal that the handset comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset together with a 6.7-inch FHD+ (1,080 x 2,400) Amoled display.

Samsung vice chair to face retrial in bribery case

(Telecompaper) Korea's Supreme Court has ordered a retrial of the bribery charges against Samsung Electronics' vice chairman Lee Jae-Yong. It dismissed an appeals court ruling that gave Lee a suspended sentence and ordered the case to be heard again, reports the Korea Times.

Smartphone sales fall 1.7% in Q2, Huawei, Samsung still growing

(Telecompaper) Global sales of smartphones declined 1.7 percent in the second quarter to 368 million units, according to Gartner. The market researcher said demand for high-end devices was falling, driving phonemakers to focus on bringing premium features to the mid-range in order to boost phone replacements.
