(Telecompaper) Proximus started a pilot with zero rating three years ago, testing sponsored mobile data, where it does not charge for data used with certain apps. About 50,000 private customers were allowed to make unlimited use of apps such as Facebook, Messenger, Waze and NMBS, news sites and from banks without data charges. With the pilot project, the operator wanted to investigate whether sponsored mobile internet use encourages customers to install more apps and so surf more.

US bill looks to stop US govt from working with Huawei, ZTE

(Telecompaper) A new bill has been introduced to Congress to prohibit any part of the US government from working with Chinese telecom equipment makers Huawei and ZTE. Republican Congressman Mike Conaway, who introduced the bill, said Chinese commercial technology was a "vehicle for the Chinese government to spy on United States federal agencies, posing a severe national security threat".
