EDRS Operations Engineering and Mission Support mf

A vacancy for an EDRS Operations Engineering and Mission Support mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Munich Ottobrunn. The successful applicant will join France Satcom System Engineering. EDRS European Data Relay System is a satellite based high data rate communication system for relaying Earth Observation data received from Low Earth Orbit LEO satellites via geostationary satellites directly to the ground for further distribution. EDRS is a PPP program between ESA and Airbus. The overall system consists of the space segment two geostationary satellites and the ground segment. The first GEO satellite EDRSA will be launched first half of 2015 and the second GEO satellite is planned for third quarter 2016. Airbus Defence and Space is the prime contractor and responsible for the management and implementation of the programme and the subsequent provision of the data relay service to ESA and other customers over a period of minimum 15 years. In this role, you will support the operations engineering team in the area of procedure definition and supervision of procedure implementation, testing and acceptance with main focus on payload flight operations. After the launch your tasks will also include engineering support to mission operations until final handover to the operations team. You will report to the head of the operation engineering team. Regular shift work is not required with exception for LEOP and IOT support. Please note that this is a fixedterm contract of 15 months. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Review of operational products delivered by spacecraft suppliers Specification of payload flight operation procedures based on inputs from spacecraft suppliers Supervision of flight procedure implementation and verification Support of technical procurement, operational readiness review as well as LEOP and IOT activities Support of user commissioning and final acceptance Technical assessment of nonconformances, discrepancies and waivers Coordination with EDRS system engineering Support of the EDRS quality management process and programme management We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to degree level in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Experience with communication payloads as well as with ESA and ESA standards Experience with databases, XML, Python, Java or equivalent as well as Unix and Windows based operating systems Profound knowledge of space system operations Basic knowledge in flight dynamics would be an asset Ability to steer subcontractors and to operate in a multinational team Autonomous, proactive and cooperative style of working Good communication and interpersonal skills Fluent English skills German skills would be an advantage Please apply on line for this vacancy on line at our careers site www.jobs.airbusgroup.com with your CV attached. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The tasks of the key person will include Support to routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems this includes Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations Providing standby callout support Support to the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Support to the preparation of operational monitoring for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Support for the operations preparation for future programmes, e.g. Meteosat Third Generation MTG and EUMETSAT Polar System 2nd Generation EPS 2G Participation in technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Qualifications In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a minimum of 3 years experience in the operational use and quality control of geophysical data Required knowledge Specifically, the key person shall have the following mandatory skills Significant experience in the verification and validation of operational data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems Experience with production monitoring and reporting Experience with configuration control of software and data Experience with Oracle databases and SQL. Desirable Knowledge It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Operational use and quality control of satellite data. The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
