NIST issued Request for information (RFI) on feedback regarding how its voluntary "Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity" is being used, how best practices for Framework use are being shared, and relative value of different parts of Framework. Additional comments on possible changes to Framework and its future management are also welcome. ANSI encourages all relevant stakeholders to respond by February 9, 2016.

NREL's Cybersecurity Initiative aims to wall off smart grid.

New initiative underway at NREL is intended to prevent hackers from gaining control of parts of the nation's power grid, potentially damaging electrical equipment, and causing localized power outages. Hired as director of the Cyber Physical Systems Security and Resilience Center, Erfan Ibrahim launched effort to build the Test Bed for Secure Distributed Grid Management, a hardware system that mimics communications, power systems, and cybersecurity layers for utility's power distribution system.
