Intel launches 5G network card, sees 5G modem platform complete by year-end

(Telecompaper) Intel launched at Mobile World Congress its FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card for 5G networks. The N3000 accelerates many virtualized workloads, ranging from 5G radio access networks to core network applications, the chipmaker said. Intel also announced that Ericsson is adopting its new SoC for mobile base stations and it's working with Skyworks and gateway manufacturers on integration of its 5G modem, with the first products available for testing by year-end.

The expected CEO announcement didn't occur. AMD's earnings are expected to be very strong, and AMD just made some organizational changes that suggest an increase in its competitive attack.

Intel, Comcast lead cable industry efforts to deliver 10G broadband, Wi-Fi 6 in the home

(Telecompaper) Intel announced at CES 2019 that it has signed a new deal with Comcast to help bring 10 Gbps speeds and Wi-Fi 6 to homes. Under the deal, Intel will optimise its 8th Gen Intel Core processors for pCs to deliver Gigabit Wi-Fi from Comcast's xFi Advanced Gateways. The two companies will also work together to drive the adoption of Wi-Fi 6 in the home and develop a global standard for 10 Gbps.

Intel to ship 5G chip earlier, in phones from 2020

(Telecompaper) Intel announced that its 5G modem, the Intel XMM 8160 5G, a multimode modem able to support peak speeds of up to 6 Gbps, will become available in the second half of next year and ship in commercial devices in 2020. Intel says it accelerated the timing of the launch by over half a year.
