Intel expands in broadband market with Lantiq takeover

(Telecompaper) Intel has agreed to buy Lantiq, a maker of chipsets for broadband gateways. The takeover of Munich-based Lantiq will allow Intel to expand beyond the cable market to also target DSL, fibre, LTE, IoT and other types of routers. The company is keen to play a role in the growing use of broadband routers to deliver additional services in the 'smart home'. Lantiq counts over 100 operators worldwide using its products and also holds more than 2,000 patents in broadband communications. Subject to regulatory approvals, the takeover is expected to close within 90 days. No financial details were disclosed.
