Job Description For our client, the European Space Agency ESA, we are looking for a Senior Science Operations Engineer for their location in Madrid, Spain, to join their Euclid Science Operations Development Unit. Tasks and Responsibilities Support to payload calibration activities including analysis of data from onground test activities Support to instrument operations preparations including Performance Verification phase plan preparation and instrument operations modelling for the SOC commanding system SOC operations preparation including the creation and validation of SOC operational procedures for downlink operations routine telemetry processing, quick look and trend analysis and uplink operations generation of commanding requests Participation in System Operational Validation Tests and other onground test campaigns Testing and validation of new deliveries of SOC software, including regression testing Acting as interface between the SGS and a certain number of PI Teams which may require deep knowledge about specific instrument functionality, performance and operations Track the science capabilities of an instrument during its development phase by participating in instrument team meetings, reviewing documents e.g. EIDBs Users Manuals and assuring completeness and validity, applying and running instrument modelssimulations, etc. Coordinating of the calibration efforts by the ESA IDTs and the instruments principal investigator teams, the latter being spread across different institutes and universities across Europe and supported by national funds Provide support to the Instrument Teams in the preparation execution of AIV activities and calibration campaigns ISTs Understand the functionality of the instrument data to be archived and support the definition of the instruments Archive data products in coordination with the Archive Scientist and in the data pipeline development Support the provision of SPICE kernels e.g. Instrument specific, orbit attitude, as required Organise and maintain uptodate all information concerning the instruments which is deemed necessary for future knowledge preservation Contribute to the SGS preparation activities including Definition of operations plans procedures and preparation of training activities Contributing to SGS requirement specification and design, by assisting in the definition of user requirements for the SGS Reviewingassessing completeness and adequacy of the system being designed and implemented. This may include exploration of new technologies Testing and providing feedback on implementations Contribute to the preparation of the Science Activity Plan SAP document Contribute to the compilation of the Science Traceability Matrix TMX and to its further development into the Observations Catalogue For Observatory class missions, provision of instrument expertise in support of the scientific community and operational activities Contribute postlaunch to the SOC systems tuning and its operational maintenance and as required to the validation and improvement of the Science Analysis software. Including Contribute to the maintenance of the overall system, including configuration control and versioning Installation, testing and validation of SOC tools and analysis software Raising problem reports on tools as well as suggested improvements Following up the correct fixing of any problems with the implementers Follow procedures and operate systems as required Assist in automation of SOC procedures Concerning instrument operations tasks include Generating and validating payload operations requests and other operational products for transmission to MOC Aid in analysing and correcting anomalous situations and instrument behaviours onboard Support the Operational Constraint Analysis Monitoring instrument health and scientific performance in support of calibration and real time decision making Performing calibration activities for the scientific instruments, following priorities as agreed internally with the Mission and following the advice and recommendations made by the Users Group through the PS Contribution, if required, to the scientific mission planning, scheduling and reaction to ToO alerts Provide support to the Project Scientist as required Cooperate with other projects on operational matters e.g. promote the exchange of information with missions where appropriate In order to enhance the capability to support the user community, if other tasks permit, up to 20 of the work under this RT may involve original science research. Requirements A Master Degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or in similar fields with multiple years of relevant working experience A high level of relevant experience in Calibration and data analysis for CCD and nearinfrared instrumentation Science and payload operations for space missions Handling common astronomical file formats e.g. FITS A background in astronomy and experience with Python applications with good broad knowledge of Python is beneficial Strong experience with working with ESA Standards A high level of written and spoken English is essential Fluency in Spanish considered an asset. Science Operations Test Engineer

Overview Good testing is essential for smooth operations hence it is an integral and important part of the Space Operations Center SOC development. The SOC System Engineer shall support the System Testing Activities and the tasks include Construct test, verification and validation plans and procedures for SOC systemssubsystems, for the SOC overall and for all interfaces to SOC. Organisation of Test Readiness Reviews TRRs Test Review Boards TRBs. Contribute to procedure writing and the implementation of those procedures. Test procedures and operate SOC testintegration systems. Test SOC systems for the daily processing. Test SOC systems for the generation of products to send to MOC. Test SOC interfaces. Coordinate Subsystem Test execution in collaboration with all parties involved. Generate test reports and requirements coverage by testing. Maintain the overall test procedures and test logbook. Gather operational constraints for software running at SOC. Assist in automation of SOC procedures nominally SOC will only be manned normal working hours. Provide general support for testing, particularly for EndtoEnd E2E and operational rehearsal campaigns. Report on activities including the gathering and presentation of test coverage summary statistics. Attending meetingsconferenceworkshops and make presentations as requested. Specific qualification requirements A University degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or in equivalent relevant fields. At least 4 years of relevant working experience. Strong experience with Test Management and System Level Testing. Strong experience with Operations and Operations Preparation within the Scientific Ground Segment. Strong experience with working with AGILE and DevOps methodologies. Working experience with Java, C, Shell, Ruby Perl, Python. Strong experience with working with ESA Standards. A high level of written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in Spanish also desirable. Excellent organisation skills for projects execution and associated documentation. Specific Tasks Contribution to instrument calibration or scientific performance monitoring. Development of new algorithms or shared scripts for scientific analysis. Requirements Science PhD or Masters Degree from a recognised Institution of seconday studies or equivalent. In order to capably and efficiently support the XMMNewton user community, the following competencies are required Sufficient expertise in astronomical observations, preferably Xray astronomy, to understand the needs and requirements of the XMMNewton community for the planning and implementation of requested observations and to competently deal with community questions on these observations. Sufficient command of commonly used generic analysis software, like IDL, or Python, and of Xray astronomical data analysis software in particular, with preference to the XMMNewton SAS, FTOOLs and XSPEC or similar, in order to competently interact with and support the community in their use of XMMNewton data. Good understanding of the tasks in scientific operations support for an international space or ground based observatory. Knowledge of the specifics of astronomical Xray detectors,preferably those of XMMNewton. Ability to interact with and provide support to users from a worldwide community and crossing multiple disciplines. This includes fluency in written and spoken English.
