Last week in telecoms: shock announcements for BT, Intelsat and Iliad

(Telecompaper) Fibre investments, 5G spectrum and network sharing largely determined the fate of the European telecoms sector last week, along with earnings and two shock announcements implying offers for two leading telcos, Iliad and BT. Iliad led the winners in week 46, with a gain of 19 percent, followed by Telekom Slovenije (+5.6%) and Turkcell (+4.8%) on positive earnings reports. BT ended the week up 3.1 percent. Intelsat's US 5G spectrum could prove less valuable than earlier expected, causing the stock to lose 44 percent of its value. SES was down 13 percent. Liberty Global was among the biggest losers as well, down 8.8 percent.

Iliad accelerates revenue growth in France in Q3, plans share buyback offer

(Telecompaper) Iliad reported group revenues of EUR 1.34 billion for the third quarter to September, up 8.1 percent year-on-year (+8.4% in H1). In its core French market, growth in service revenues improved for the third consecutive quarter, as Free returned to positive customer growth in the fixed broadband segment. Alongside its financial results, the company unveiled plans for a EUR 1.4 billion public share buyback offer and announced the adoption of a new dividend policy of EUR 2.60 per share.

Wind Tre sheds 2 mln lines since Iliad entry - Agcom

(Telecompaper) The Italian mobile market added a total of 3.0 million lines in the 12 months to end of June 2019, due mainly to a 4.3 million rise in M2M lines, which offset a 1.3 million decline in traditional human SIMs, according to the latest report from regulator Agcom corresponding to the second quarter of 2019. Wind Tre continued to lead the market of human SIMs at the end of June with a 31.5 percent share, down 3.1 percent year on year, above all as a result of the 4.7 percent market share attained by new entrant Iliad in its first 13 months of activity.

Last week in telecoms: double digit losses for Iliad and Play, double digit gains for Drillisch, United Internet and Gamma

(Telecompaper) The European telecoms sector underperformed the general market in week 36. Iliad and Play suffered double digit losses and not all M&A related news pushed the market towards consolidation. The Italian market remains the embodiment of competition, with all mobile operators beating the promotion drum. Our European Telecoms Services index was up 0.5 percent for the week as a result of a few steep gains, at 1&1 Drillisch, United Internet and Gamma Communications. The EuroStoxx 50 index was up 2.0 percent.
