Last week in telecoms: Altice makes a surprise jump and Iliad recovers

2018-05-28 07:30:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Last week, Altice was in the spotlights. It's share price was down 65 percent, but correcting for the Altice USA spin-off, there was in fact a 139 percent leap up from the previous week. Altice managed to bring the Telecompaper European telecoms index into positive territory (+0.3%), because without it the sector would have been marginally down (-0.1%). Altice may have been helped in performing this remarkable jump by news of Arcep's president no longer opposing market consolidation. The index outperformed the EuroStoxx 50 index (-1.6%).

Worst performer was French operator Iliad. Competitor Altice was the week's biggest winner.

Iliad takes new sales approach, as Q1 performance suffers from falling fixed line revenue

The mobile business saw revenues increase by 3.9 percent to EUR 531 million (+9.3% in Q1 2017).
