Job Summary Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead our worldleading space photonics RD group that is the tip of the spear in developing groundbreaking systems for communication and sensing to be deployed in nextgeneration laserequipmed satellite constellations and UAV swarms. Heading the Space and Sensing RD programmes, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our business by working with pioneering companies in Europe, Japan and USA in order to fuel the companys growth and turn new ideas into innovative product lines. As a strategic thinker you will create and execute on product roadmaps, setting milestones and creating new joint RD opportunities with current and new customers. You will work closely with other parts of the business, including business development, sales and engineering in order to align RD activities, secure contracts and drive new products into manufacturing. You will work within a multidisciplinary team including electronic, optical and mechanical engineers to develop cuttingedge new products that will deliver profitable revenue growth. Responsibilities Create, manage and implement strategic New Product Development NPD roadmaps within the Business Units deployed, in collaboration with other functions of the business. Lead multidisciplinary teams focusing on research, development and commercialization of new fiberoptic, optomechanical and optoelectronic products Create and maintain a balanced portfolio of new NPD projects based on return on investment, time to market and ratio of internalexternal funding. Expand team skillset and create new technical capabilities within the business Own and control team budget, manage delivery of technical milestones and control yearly team budget Prepare RD proposals to customers and public organizations for securing external funding and derisking business plans in longerterm NPD projects Work with Business Development and Engineering teams to support tender activities and generate solutions for customers Drive products from design, to prototyping up to environmental qualification following internal or customerdriven NPI Knowledge Skills and Experience Essential At least Masters degree level in engineering with specialization in photonics. PhD preferred. At least 10 years of industrial experience in fiber optics or optoelectronics Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing direct reports and leading crossfunctional teams Track record in driving RD projects to production Ability to work across multiple business units with strong communication skills and problemsolving initiatives Extended knowledge in product engineering, NPI and excellent capability to master new technologies Adaptable in often rapid changing design requirements and customer needs Must be eligible to work in the UK.
