With laser sales increasing, IPG Photonics stock soars

Shares of Oxford-based IPG Photonics, a developer of optical fiber-based lasers, jumped 11 percent Tuesday to $91.05 apiece after the company reported a jump in sales in its most recent quarter. With demand for its laser technology increasing, IPG reported that sales for its second quarter increased 22 percent to a record $235.1 million, above analysts' estimates of $222 million.

Because of better-than-expected results for its second quarter in addition to its third quarter guidance, shares of IPG Photonics Corporation are up by more than 13% in afternoon trading. The lasers company reported earnings of $61.3 million or an adjusted earnings per share of $1.15, up by 27% and 25%, respectively, from the same quarter last year.
