SME Education Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for 2015-16 academic year. Wide variety of scholarships offered provides financial support to students pursuing careers in manufacturing, manufacturing technology, or closely related fields of study. SME Education Foundation Family Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors or undergraduate students related to SME members. Endowed scholarship can award up to $70,000 to winning student.

In recognition of Focus HOPE's STEM Bridge program, SME Education Foundation has committed $25,000 in funding. Through this and other initiatives, foundation provides K-12 students, college students, and students enrolled in technical training programs with scholarships and access to additional manufacturing educational resources. In last decade, foundation has provided Focus: HOPE with nearly $100,000 in scholarships, specifically for students enrolled in Machining Training Institute.

SME announced its 2015 officers and directors, who will comprise its Board of Directors. In addition to new and returning officers and directors, SME will welcome 2015 President Wayne F. Frost, CMfgE. New/returning officers include President-Elect Dean L. Bartles, PhD; Vice President Sandra L. Bouckley; Treasurer Thomas R. Kurfess, PhD; and Secretary Mark L. Michalski. There were also 9 directors named. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2016–17 SME Board of Directors.

SME Names Jeffrey Krause as executive director and CEO.

SME announced Jeffrey M. Krause as its new executive director and chief executive officer, and SME Board of Directors named Krause to said position (effective December 15). In this new role, Krause will be responsible for setting strategic direction while leading day-to-day operations and working with customers and stakeholders. Krause will have general management of all aspects of SME, which support current and future generations of manufacturing workforce.
