SME and Alcoa Foundation offer STEM summer camp.

SME Education Foundation and Alcoa Foundation partnered with Wadsworth City Schools to offer more than 450 K-8 students a science, technology, engineering, and math ‘Mission: Mars’ summer camp experience. Throughout camp, students work collaboratively to create rockets, rovers, satellites, and other mechanisms to explore the planet and their own potential future in STEM courses and careers. Camp is one of several programs created by SME's Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education network.

SME's 2015 Distinguished Faculty Advisors include: Eric McKell, PE, associate professor, Brigham Young University; Elsayed A. Orady, PhD, professor of manufacturing, University of Michigan-Dearborn; and Patricia Polastri, PhD, assistant professor, Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Award recognizes advisors for their service to SME, and their overall efforts to create, revitalize, and maintain chapters that let students see how worthwhile an education and career in manufacturing can be.

SME named 3 of its student chapter faculty advisors – Eric McKell, Elsayed A. Orady, and Patricia Polastri – as its 2015 Distinguished Faculty Advisors. This is in recognition for service to SME as well as overall efforts to create, revitalize, and maintain chapters that offer students opportunities to see benefits of manufacturing education and careers. Given to each advisor, $1,000 award will go towards supporting student chapter activities and/or professional development opportunities.
