SME Members elect international directors, Member Council Reps.

SME elected 6 international directors to serve as its governing body. Beginning their terms in January 2016, SME International Directors will be Sandra Bouckley, Mark Michalski, Robert Nesbitt, Ralph Resnick, Jim Schlusemann, and Susan Smyth. SME members also elected 4 Member Council representatives: Maite Mauri, Dean Phillips, Brock Strunk, and David Wells. SME leadership, members, and staff will install new president and board of directors in November.

SME Lends Expertise to Alliance for Manufacturing Foresight.

SME is part of Alliance for Manufacturing Foresight (MForesight), which will serve as a technology-focused consortium to provide input on national manufacturing research and development priorities. Funded by National Science Foundation and NIST, this consortium will be led by University of Michigan. SME will serve on leadership committee as well as leverage its member network, to help provide responses to inquiries on emerging technologies, opportunities, and priorities in manufacturing.

SME to promote Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards.

SME Education Foundation is lending its support to the Italian Trade Agency by helping promote its 2015 call for papers for the Italian Machine Tool Technology Awards. Aim of program is to enrich the engineering education of students and to advance knowledge on issues of importance within the industry. For the competition, students are asked to write a thesis on the relative innovation taking place in mechanical engineering-related industries and the issues they face.

On October 3, 2015 in Dearborn, MI at 8:30 am, SME will host runners and walkers for its first Manufacturing Day 5K race. Proceeds will benefit SME Education Foundation, and media can shoot and interview runners. Manufacturing Day is a nationally recognized event created in observation of current technologies, workforce opportunity, and future direction of American manufacturing.

SME and its subsidiaries will host various activities on October 2 and throughout that month as gold sponsors of Manufacturing Day 2015. To drive interest and awareness in manufacturing, select Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education (PRIME) schools will host and participate in open houses, manufacturing facility tours, career festivals, industry panels, and field trips. Tooling U-SME will present Platinum Education Center designation to community and technical colleges.
