Lean Certification Alliance introduced improvements to its Lean Certification program, which provides individuals, companies, and educators with benchmark for achievements and common roadmap for continuous improvement and workforce development. Elimination of hierarchical requirements allows candidates to obtain certification at rank appropriate to career, knowledge, and experience. This program came about due to partnership among 4 non-profit organizations, including SME.

Brian Glowiak Becomes New Director of SME Education Foundation.

As SME Education Foundation director, Brian Glowiak will be responsible for day-to-day leadership and strategic direction. SME chief executive officer Jeffrey Krause lauded Glowiak, specifically noting his "wealth of nonprofit and charitable giving experience" as well as his "extensive experience working within a foundation and his connections to the nonprofit industry." Glowiak joins SME from the FCA Foundation, where he served as vice president.

SME chose 11 new Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineers, aged 35 or younger from industry and academia, based on their research and development efforts in emerging manufacturing applications, published works, design ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and leadership. As SME selects namesakes for award in recognition of his/her lifelong contributions to manufacturing, 2015 award is named after 2013 SME President Dennis S. Bray, PhD, FSME, president and CEO of Contour Precision Group LLC.

For its role in said partnership, SME will provide additive manufacturing knowledge to EUROMOLD delegates through technical conference and exhibits as well as work with startups and other leading companies to assist them in reaching world market for additive manufacturing.
