BIO addresses Pharmaceutical Cost Transparency Act.

BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood made statement regarding California State Assembly's burdensome legislation. "While the Assembly’s efforts to address health care costs for patients are well intended, the Pharmaceutical Cost Transparency Act of 2015 (AB 463) does nothing to improve patient access to medicines that have been put virtually out of reach by insurance company specialty tiers that have such high copays and co-insurance requirements that patients feel they no longer have insurance."

BIO applauds Rep. Robert Hurt (R-VA) for introducing the Small Company Disclosure Simplification Act (HR 1912) to reform the eXtensible Business Reporting Language compliance regime to reduce regulatory burden on small businesses. Legislation takes commonsense approach to the regulatory regime for public companies by exempting emerging growth companies from XBRL compliance and removing an expensive bureaucratic roadblock from the path of emerging biotech issuers.

BIO commends Judiciary Committee's review of Innovation Act.

According to BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood, BIO supports the efforts of the House Judiciary Committee to curb abuse of the patent system. However, BIO is concerned that H.R. 9, the Innovation Act of 2015, goes beyond targeting abusive practices, including with respect to its excessive pleading requirements, mandatory stays of discovery, and mechanisms for joinder of third-party investors, licensors, and collaborators in all patent-related cases.

BIO Supports Trade Promotion Authority on multiple issues.

Upon introduction of Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities Act of 2015, statement released by BIO President and CEO Jim Greenwood commended Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) for introducing a "carefully crafted bill." Greenwood specifically noted reauthorization of Trade Promotion Authority, effects regarding ongoing U.S. trade negotiations in Asia and Europe, and return of U.S. to global trade leadership.

BIO Deems Gregory Crawford 2015 Everyday Superhero finalist.

BIO announced Gregory Crawford, dean of the College of Science at University of Notre Dame, as one of 5 finalists (out of 100+ nominations) in University/Research category of Everyday Superheroes program. According to BIO International Convention president Scott Whitaker, Crawford was recognized "for his efforts in raising awareness and more than $1M in research and clinical trial funds … for Niemann-Pick Type C disease."
