BIO submitted comments on EPA's proposed rules for 2014, 2015, and 2016 Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS). In said comments, BIO makes clear that uncorrected course will cause program to continue to undermine goals and requirements of statute, undercut investment in advanced and cellulosic biofuels, and raise greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in transportation fuel sector. BIO also issued several recommendations to EPA.

BIO thanked Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), and other committee members for marking up legislation to extend critical tax incentives. Legislation would extend for 2 years the important Research & Development Tax Credit, Second Generation Biofuel Producer Tax Credit, Special Depreciation Allowance for Second Generation Biofuel Plant Property, and Controlled Foreign Corporation Look-Through Rule.

BIO World Congress sets new record for partnering meetings.

The 2015 BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology recently concluded at the Montreal Convention Center. With more than 50 exhibitors, this year’s Conference drew around 1,200 industry leaders from 725 companies, 50 countries, and 37 states, as well as the District of Columbia. Organized by BIO, event hosted more than 1,400 partnering meetings, a 40% increase from 2014 BIO World Congress. Educational programming included 300 speakers and 48 sessions in 8 educational tracks.

BIO's Jim Greenwood presented and participated in national stakeholder forum, hosted by U.S. Department of Agriculture, to announce new Biorefinery, Renewable Chemical, and Biobased Product Manufacturing Assistance Program (Section 9003 Program). "With proper implementation," Greenwood said, "we believe the Section 9003 program will provide greater access to capital and equity for biorefineries...and will help spur the private investment needed to finance important new innovations."
