Some folks just can't wait to get their hands on the latest gizmo, and that is illustrated in black-and-white by NTT DoCoMo which, reporting through TechCrunch , revealed Monday that it experienced a substantial loss in subscribers in September, despite finally receiving access to the iPhone.

(Telecompaper) Japanese mobile operator SoftBank added 270,700 net new customers in September to end the month with a total of 34.07 million mobile subscribers, according to figures from the Telecommunications Carriers Association. KDDI secured 232,700 new customers to bring its total to 39.05 million while NTT Docomo lost 66,800 customers in September to end the month with 61.77 million subscribers. PHS services provider Willcom gained 41,500 new customers to end September with 5.31 million. Wimax services provider UQ Communications ended the month with 4.28 million customers as it attracted 10,200 new subscribers and Wireless City Planning added 174,800 new customers to bring its total to 2.08 million wireless broadband users.

DoCoMo lost 66,800 net users in September, the company said in an e-mail today. SoftBank added 270,700 and KDDI 232,700 users, according to the carriers.
