An 18-year-old student at Piscataquis Community High School accused of receiving and sharing pornographic images of an underage girl on his cellphone faces at least five years behind bars if convicted, according to District Attorney R. Christopher Almy. Keenan Larry of Abbot was arrested Monday and charged with felony sexual exploitation of a minor, felony dissemination of sexually explicit material and misdemeanor possession of sexually explicit materials after he "solicited a fellow student to make a video of herself engaging in sexually explicit conduct" and then showed the video to other students, Almy said in an email.

The Ohio State University student who won $250,000 for his biotech startup and a year in the 43North incubator is back in Columbus to help recruit applicants for the next round of the $5 million business plan competition in Buffalo, New York. It's not a play to lure more Columbus startups northward - but to tighten the networking and cross-pollination among startup communities throughout the Great Lakes, Peeyush Shrivastava told me.

The Astrophysics Group of SRON and the Department of Astrophysics of the Radboud University have a vacancy for a PhD student fm SRONs mission is to bring about breakthroughs in international space research. The institute develops pioneering technology and advanced space instruments, and uses them to pursue fundamental astrophysical research, Earth science and exoplanetary research. SRON invites applications for this 4year PhD position funded by ERC Consolidator Grant number 647208 to Dr. Peter Jonker. The PhD student will work in the group of Dr. Peter Jonker. The endgoal of the work is to determine whether intermediatemass black holes exist in ultraluminous Xray sources and if so what their mass distribution is. The employed tools include nearinfrared imaging and spectroscopy of relatively nearby ultraluminous Xray sources. The PhD student will be based in Utrecht and part of the time in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Helping inspire next generation of environmental scientists and engineers, EPA announced 34 fellowships for undergraduate students in 25 states and Puerto Rico to pursue environmental science and related fields of study. Awards are part of EPA's Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) fellowship program and provide students with opportunity to gain hands-on experience with agency scientists. Students selected for fellowships are undergraduates entering their junior year.
