Earth Observation Data System Management Engineer 2123001 We are looking for a Data System Engineer to support our customer, ESAs Mission Operations Data Systems Division which specifies, develops, implements and maintains all common technical infrastructure and missiondedicated data systems required for operations. This covers in particular mission control systems, mission planning systems, simulators, and new types of data processing systems as necessary. The Division delivers these systems to the users and provides them with appropriate support during the various missionproject phases. The Division is also responsible for the development and the maintenance of the infrastructure for the mission operations data systems in use at ESOC. The DSM services relate to Mission Data Systems MDS, which include Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre and Advanced Software Applications. An example of some of the services provided include Development and Maintenance of Mission Data Systems Specification and management of Software Requirements Contractual and technical work for the start of a new MDS project Running the MDS software development and maintenance projects Support the Management and perform ESOC internal activities related to MDS deployment, testing, configuration etc according to ESOC internal processes. Support to Missions critical activities Organisation of Software Support SWS onsite environment preparation Act as a role of Software Coordinator in the FCT Support to missions during the whole lifetime Review of MIRD and contribution to MIP Definition of external and internal interfaces Contribution to the SFIRD, GSSRD, GSSTP and review of SGICD Support to Ground Segment Reviews Support to regular progress meetings with Project and ESOC team Support SVTSOVTE2E tests and in general FCT activity Support mission closure and retirement of SW and HW items Support to 3rd Party and Special Projects Coordinate the inhouse and industrial data systems team Assume the data system architect role for special projects which are not based on reference architecture of ground segments for missions such as SSA, METERON, IAP Support to study, innovation and standardisation Organise and coordinate joint projects with other agencies in the context of standardisation e.g. interoperability testing, prototyping Infrastructure and environment Automating CICD processes Providing training in usage of CICD, container orchestration, and DevOps tools. ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Solutions Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for prospective and existing customers within the Global Fixed Data segment. The Solutions Engineer is an integral member of the Global Fixed Data segment, providing support in all aspects of defining, developing and implementing solutions to customers service requirements using the full suite of products and services utilizing both the SES GEO and MEO satellite assets and ground networks. Candidates should have experience of RF, Link Budgets, Antenna, Network, Baseband, Mechanical, Systems, Operational, and VSAT engineering background as applied to commercial satellite managed service applications. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES KEY RESULT AREAS Perform link budget analysis to determine optimized capacity requirements and options on MEO and GEO assets Lead capacity management efforts for Fixed Data customers transitioning between regions based upon itineraries and other requirements. Requires collaboration with other departments such as Customer Service Managers CSM, Asset Management AM, Ground Systems and Operations Assist stakeholder teams with respect to large scale projects such as Cband5G clearing, global platform designs, segment product development Prospect prequalification with direct interface with customers prospects engineers, and business development staff Prepare and present customer presentations for service solutions, systems design and standard products Build strong relationships with technical decision makers by providing insight into existing and future technologies and benefits Collaborate with Product Management on new product initiatives and enhancements to verify integration with current systems Provide training to customers both internal and external on SES Networks services and products Engage with customers to schedule operational trials and demonstrations, enhancing the customers knowledge of SES products Represent SES Networks at trade shows and industry conferences Track and understand new applicable technologies, systems and application, including stabilized antenna systems, modems and ground infrastructure Assist Product Development, and Network and Space Systems Engineering in understanding what customers need to grow their business in terms of followon satellite architectures, applications, new product types, ground terminal developments, service cost models, beam placements, and SES Networks operations customer service support Develop optimized technical service solutions and prepare technical proposals for sales requests and formal RFPs with a detailed understanding of the customers service requirements, business environment and commercial strategies Understand SES Networks systems to support endtoend customer service applications Recommend to customers new technologies being developed for use with the SES Networks system which can better serve their needs and increase SES Networks share of wallet When required, provide Solutions Engineering support to alternate segment sales teams. Other adhoc duties or projects, as required by the Line Manager. COMPETENCIES Technical knowledge Proficiency in satellite transmission analysis and complex solution engineering. Extended knowledge of satellite design, Broadcasting technologies, VSAT networks, network architecture, access schemes, data networking, engineering software development and radio frequency Experience and knowledge of Internet Protocol IP networks, access routing, BGPMPLS, IP Peering and SDN, networking technologies as well as international Carrier services Comprehension of Central and Edge architecture and impact to customer serviceexperience.
