Description As members of the SEP LEO Mission Data Processing Operational Applications maintenance team, the Key Person shall support the maintenance and evolution of the EPS Ground Segment, specifically the development and integration of new PPF. The application software is mainly developed in C and a good experience in C is therefore mandatory. For the PPF support knowledge of C will be needed in addition. The Key Persons duties will include a range of tasks, from the support of the day to day operation and maintenance, the analysis, design, development and testing of the facilities which also includes the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. The Key Person will be the focal point when it comes to integrating each individual Product Processing Facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early SW development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. In support to operations, the Key Person may also be required to provide on call support as part of a team of maintenance engineers. Besides the above described routine tasks, the Key Person will also be expected to contribute to design and system engineeringreengineering activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. Candidate areas are programmes such as Jason, Saral, EARS, Sentinel 3, etc. Typically tasks will include 1. Contribute to the definition and design of architectures of data processing ground segments and their components, their interfaces, and the validation and verification methods. 2. Monitor the detailed design and implementation of new system software components by industrial contractors and perform the acceptance of externally developed components. 3. Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution. Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies 6. Perform standard SW engineering activities such as SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected. SW integration and verification in the EUMETSAT ground segments 7. Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, 8. Profile In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key Person shall have experience in SW development, configuration controlled software build environments, experience with the operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of large, complex, realtime data processing systems. JOB DESCRIPTION Senior Software Engineer The Pipeline Systems Department in the Directorate of Engineering DoE is developing the VLT and VLTI data reduction pipelines for the operational instruments at La Silla Paranal observatory. The data reduction pipelines are used in two operational environments, by the ESO Data Flow Operations at Garching, and by the Paranal Science Operations PSO, for the quicklook assessment of data, the healthmonitoring of instruments and detectors, the generation of master calibration data, the reduction of scientific exposures, and data quality control.
