Senior Linux System Administration Engineer Sentinel3 mf Ref.Nr. 158521 The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, is preparing for the operations of the Copernicus Sentinel3 mission. The mission is to measure seasurface topography, sea and landsurface temperature and ocean and landsurface colour with highend accuracy and reliability in support of ocean forecasting systems, and for environmental and climate monitoring. The first of two Sentinel3 spacecraft is planned to be launched in mid2015. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Linux System Administration Engineer who will be working at our customers site, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. As a member of the Computer and Storage Management team, you will provide support for Sentinel3 Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the Linuxbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. Tasks to be performed include installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations generate and maintain documentation. This may comprise writing and reviewing requirement and design specifications, change proposals, preparing documents supporting procurements, reviewing data packages belonging to technical inspections and reviews, writing and reviewing IT architecture and design, writing design evaluation reports, writingreviewing reports, test reports and overall status reports perform the activities in applying the relevant change control and maintenance procedures In the performance of these tasks, you will apply the EUMETSA T configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. The position includes the need for oncall standby support. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in May 2015. Interviews at the customer site for the position are planned between 9th and 20th March. Your Qualifications In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, you will have at least 5 years experience of assessing and administrating computer systems and be very experienced in IT system design. Your experience will have been made in an operational or production environment, driven by high availability requirements. You will need proven knowledge and handson experience with the following At least 5 years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems expert knowledge and a significant work experience of Linux operating systems Redhat and SLES good experience in VMWare virtualization good IT system design skills good understanding of incident and problem management technical documentation skills experience in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements Very good knowledge in English written and spoken You shall be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following skills and system software environments TCPIP intemetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g. NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP high availability software like Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster or any other Experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following will be considered as an advantage Dell I HP computers running Linux Solaris and MS Windows System Administration RAID arrays EMC SAN Fabrics Brocade Backup and recovery systems It is also an advantage if you can carry out basic hardware support such as installing interface cards or physically setting up networks.
