The Space Science Center at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a fulltime position as Ground Station ManagerScheduler. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020. Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a widerange of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. Morehead State University delivers a strong and affordable education for friendly, ambitious students who thrive in a studentfocused learning environment defined by small class sizes and faculty committed to teaching and student success. The Morehead State University Space Science Centers 21m antenna is becoming an affiliated node on the NASAJPL Deep Space Network. MSU will be the fourth node on the network the other three are in California, Australia, and Spain, and are all NASA owned assets. The Ground Station Manager Scheduler represents a unique position which requires specialized knowledge of, satellite ground station systems, uplink, downlink and ranging systems, ground data systems, associated software systems and satellite mission operations. RESPONSIBILITIES The Ground Station Manager Scheduler or GSMS will provide oversight and management of the uplinkdownlink tracking and ranging support for future NASA and private sector space missions. Included duties are station management, station scheduling, station preparation, operations, software maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and reporting. Station management includes supervision of all station activities, space mission operations, staff, and students budget analyses and projections daily interaction with Jet Propulsion Laboratory JPL Deep Space Network DSN management the NASA Deep Space Operations Center DSOC, and overseeing implementation of additional infrastructure. Station scheduling includes the use of NASA Deep Space Network Asset Scheduling Software Systems, which requires specialized training, skill and experience analyzing and allocating asset time based on requested activities from JPL and other customers scheduling contingencies, emergency spacecraft operations, managing reporting processes, statistically analyzing pass events, and invoicing for asset usage Station preparation involves equipment checkupstatus, ensuring uplinkdownlink capabilities, station status, essential software status, network status, station monitor and control systems status, etc. The GSMS will supervise engineering and operations involving providing ground support through the Deep Space Station17 DSS17 to communicate with NASA spacecraft. This includes operating various DSN equipment including hardware and software, assuring proper communication between NASA and DSS17, assuring successful uplink, data acquisition, equipment status, and station status. When presented a problem the GSMS can supervise the systematic approach to solving the problem and establishing the status of the station. This includes troubleshooting all aspects of the 21 meter ground data system and the Mission Operations Center, including software systems, digital systems, IT systems, data management servers, and instrumentation. Testing practices will be required to ensure nominal station operations. Inhouse testing training will be specified. REQUIREMENTS Bachelors in Space Science, Space Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline or other discipline plus applicable experience in ground station operationsscheduling management. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Three years of experience in ground station scheduling, management, invoicing, andor operations preferred SPONSORSHIP This position is not budgeted for Visa Sponsorship. China Mobile, Huawei put 5G base station at the top of Mount Everest

(Telecompaper) China Mobile and Huawei have together built the highest 5G base station in the world: at 6500 metres on Mount Everest. The base station will enable China Mobile to run its dual Gigabit network on the mountain. The base station launch marks the 60th anniversary of the first successful ascension of Mount Everest from the northern slope. Base stations are now at the Mount Everest Base Camp at 5,300 metres, the Transition Camp at 5,800 metres, and the Forward Camp at 6,500 meters.
