Description The Infrastructure Engineer shall work in the Technical and Scientific Support Department within the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division. He will report to the GSI Technical Infrastructure Manager. The tasks of the Infrastructure Engineer will include Taking charge and full responsibility of infrastructure projects assigned to him by the Technical Infrastructure Manager from the infrastructure project portfolio. These projects can be migrations and relocations of existing infrastructure, building new infrastructure for future programmes, additions and enhancements to existing infrastructure elements such as video and workstations, new builds and changes to power and cooling infrastructure, fiber and copper cabling, rack assembly. Project management activity also includes defining the demand for external resources and the management thereof when on site. Conducting communication of technical nature with contractors, suppliers and project stakeholders. Supporting the Technical Infrastructure Manager in project scheduling. Supporting the Technical Infrastructure Manager in project related procurements by sourcing different materials and equipment and collecting price offers for these. This does not imply budget responsibility for the incumbent. Properly using the Infrastructure productivity tools such as iPatch for cable management, the APC StruxtureWare DCIM package and supporting the administration thereof. Preparing design documents technical notes in EUMETSAT terminology for complex projects that are assigned to or initiated by the GSIInfrastructure Group. Preparing design drawings using Visio for the projects mentioned above. Supporting the infrastructure inventory management activity by creating new and maintaining old infrastructure element records within the DCIM tool and SAP. Perform handson tasks such as server, workstation, communication and video equipment installation for existing and new operational programmes and moving material out and into the Infrastructure storage areas. Outside peak periods when external resources are not available the Infrastructure Engineer is required to carry out additional hands on tasks such as rack assembly, patch cable installation, assisting in power box installation Perform other tasks as directed by the Infrastructure Technical Manager. Profile The candidate shall have the following educational background and 5 to 10 years overall working experience and 3 to 5 years specific experience in the areas mentioned bellow Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent. Familiarity with data center infrastructure elements power, cooling, space management, racks, cabling and patching copper and fiber. Familiarity with data center operations procedures access, security, maintenance windows, mission critical processes, etc. Experience in coordinating simple projects 510 resources, project budget order of magnitude up to 20K EUR. Good communications skills with external and internal resources and stakeholders. Good writing and analytical skills for design activity. Business acumen to identify financially viable and sustainable technical solutions. Basic knowledge of server and SW package administration. User experience related to some current ERP or workflow management system such as SAP, Oracle, Siebel or Remedy. Proficiency in work procedures related to server, workstation, communication equipment installation as well as rack assembly, electrical installations, cabling, patching and other maintenance activity around control and data centers. The person however does not need to be a licensed electrician or HVAC fitter. Experience in a 247, mission critical environment. The knowledge of a cabling management system andor a DCIM system such as APC Struxtureware , Nlyte, ABB Decathlon, Emerson Trellis is a distinct advantage. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. However for this position, taking into account the need of relationships primarily with local companies, a good knowledge of written and spoken German is desirable.
