PROFILE The consultant shall have University degree or equivalent Minimum 5 yearsof experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage systems Fluency in English Expert knowledge and an extensive work experience in the Storage solutions, Storage Area Networks SAN, BackupArchive technologies and demonstrated experience, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with the design and implementation of the following highly available system and software environments o SAN topology, managing Brocade or equivalent Directors and departmental switches o Storage virtualization solutions EMC VPLEX or equivalent serving many different types of storage client platforms o Enterprise and Departmental storage solutions EMC VMAX, HDS or equivalent file, block or object base o Big Data storage solutions Automation of storage services provision, Cloud Storage, Data Analytics o Generation and maintenance of technical documentation in English. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have experience with the following Implementation of archive solutions using Hierarchical Storage Management HSM system SAMFS or equivalent High end, automated, tape library systems StorageTek SL8500 series with ACSLS software Implementation of backup and recovery solutions Symantec Netbackup or equivalent SystemService Monitoring using Nagios framework The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. Tasks The Storage Network Infrastructure SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all programs, unified under a management framework. It satisfies storage service requirements in terms of size, performance, redundancy, availability, security, supports meteorological archive, data protection and disaster recovery. It consists of a few core subsystems that interact with each other through welldefined and controlled interfaces. The Storage Network Infrastructure is maintained by the Computer and Storage Management Team inside the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Energy Storage and Power Laboratory Section and will be responsible for technical support to ESA projects as well as preparing, monitoring and guiding work on technology developments in the field of energy storage for space applications. The main tasks of the post will include, in particular providing specialist support to ESA spacecraft programmes and other European projects, if required at all development stages from definition studies to inflight data analysis, on all aspects of energy storage this encompasses the performance of analyses, tradeoffs and simulations, as required, in order to assess energy storage assembly performance and interactions with the rest of the system providing independent, technical assessment to both projectlevel and Agencylevel system and subsystem reviews defining, managing and evaluating RD activities with European industry and with academic networks defining, managing and analysing tests carried out in the European Space Battery Test Centre at ESTEC supporting the energy storage technology dossier and roadmap preparation and supporting their harmonisation with European industry, laboratories and national agencies. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electrochemistry or aerospace engineering and a sound knowledge of battery technology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in batteries for space applications battery modelling industrial battery design and development electronics battery mechanical and thermal design. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, applicants should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
