We are seeking talented junior and experienced software engineers to further strengthen our team and help us deliver software services to our clients and partners, supporting both the routine operations of flying satellites and the development of complex new Ground Segment systems. Our multinational team is based in Darmstadt, Germany, and works with and within our clients satellite operations teams at ESAs Satellite Operations Centre ESOC and EUMETSAT. Some of the satellite missions you could be working with include ESAs XMMNewton, Integral, Mars Express, and Aeolus and EUMETSATs Meteosat Third Generation MTG. Aufgaben In your role as a MCS Software Engineer, you would undertake some or all of the following activities Develop, test and maintain software solutions that are part of Mission Control applications and their related data processing systems for multiple European astronomy, EO and weather satellite missions Carry out system validation and verification activities Investigate and troubleshoot raised anomalies in mission control system applications and devise solutions to complex problems Work closely with flight control teams and understand their operational environments Provide user and software support to satellite flight control teams Support Launch and LEOP campaigns Qualifikation Those qualified for the role will be proactive, natural problem solvers and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. BACKGROUND The EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG will secure the continuation of meteorological observations from the midmorning polar orbit over a period of 21 years, starting in 202425, based on three successive pairs of MetopSG AB satellites. EPSSG will bring observations to a new standard, through the suite of innovative European instruments flown on the MetopSG spacecraft. These include Microwave Sounder MWS, Microwave Imager MWI and Ice Cloud Imager ICI instruments. In parallel, phaseA activities for a potential expansion of EPSSG are running and include the development of small satellites equipped with small microwave sounders which are envisaged to complement the EPSSG microwave sounding mission. Reporting to the EPSSG Instrument Systems Manager, the Microwave Instrument Engineer will support the activities linked to the ESAled development of the MWS instrument, as well as supporting activities linked to the development of new small microwave sounders in the frame of prospective LEO missions. Heshe will acquire, maintain and share inhouse knowledge on instrument design, performances and operations aspects. As a member of the Instrument Team and together with instrument scientists, system, ground segment and operations preparation engineers, the post holder will also be involved in the development, operations preparation and commissioning of the endtoend of microwave instruments chains covering all functions from instrument commanding to delivery of products to users. DUTIES Provide technical support for the MWS instruments project teams to ensure daily coordination of information related to design, test results, expected performances and operations of these instruments Follow the assembly, integration and testing of MWS on the MetopSG satellites carried out under ESA responsibility Analyse and assess results of microwave radiometer testing and qualification including any nonconformances and identify issues having potential implications for the design, development, performances, operations and commissioning of endtoend instrument chains Follow the development of the radiometers Level 1 processing algorithms associated ground prototype processors and instrument data simulators, and assess their consistency with the instrument development and their suitability to support the development of operational Level 1 processing chains Support the operations preparation and commissioning of microwave radiometers endtoend instrument chains in cooperation with ESA, focusing on instrument operability and performance validation Maintain and share relevant information and knowledge within EUMETSAT on the microwave radiometers Support activities related to the prospective activities with regard to future microwave passive radiometer missions. You will be part of our experienced team who design and develop, extend and maintain Mission Control Systems software tools for our space clients and you would bring to the table your expertise with development of tools such as debuggers, profilers, and tracing utilities, and skills such as problemsolving and multitasking, using a logical approach. Managing the transition to a community licensing model for these in parallel with uninterrupted support to the flying Space missions.
