Polyester prices are staying firm at their record levels but domestic producers could be confronted with lower import prices, due to the sharp fall of the renminbi. Viscose prices have remained unchanged in China and Pakistan this week, reflecting the lack of demand from downward spinners. Cotton linter prices could now rise in China after Beijing has decided to impose 25% additional tariffs on US products. Polyester prices are surprisingly bottoming out in China, over a rebound of crude oil prices fueling anticipations of higher prices later this year. Demand is however expected slowing down in July, which should limit any rise of polyester prices. Our weekly report covers the Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) on the domestic markets in China, India, and Pakistan. Cotton fiber and yarn prices have again risen in the last seven days on India's domestic and export markets. Demand from China could however be weakened by the sharp decline of the renminbi in the last days, resulting in even higher prices on China's domestic market in yuan terms. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.

Spun yarn prices are slightly dropping in China, as a clear sign of the weakness of demand from textile and apparel producers in this part of the year. The current fall of the renminbi could protect domestic producers from a new surge of yarn imports.
