Polyester prices have remained very firm in the last days in China, India and Pakistan, with POY prices even significantly increasing in China. The fall of the renminbi has potentially boosted Chinese exports whereas the announcement of a new US trade investigation could disrupt the textile chain, now targeted by the Trump administration. Our weekly report covers the Polyester Staple Fiber (PSF) on the domestic markets in China, India, and Pakistan. Polyester filament prices in China are also released, whereas the report includes a price comparison of polyester with cotton and viscose in China.

Polyester Fiber & Yarn Price Comparison: China vs. India and Pakistan (Monthly Report)

Spun polyester prices have further risen in June in China whereas staple fiber prices have fallen, with margins again increasing at Chinese plants. By contrast, gross margins have dropped in India where they have reached extremely low levels by historical standards. Our monthly report compares polyester staple fiber and polyester spun yarn prices in China, India and Pakistan, in both local currency terms and US$ terms. Gross margins of spinners are also calculated on a monthly basis. Historical data back to 2007 are available for download.

The recent rally of crude oil prices and the fall of the renminbi are further supporting paraxylene, PTA and MEG prices whatever the seasonal slowdown in polyester production. Structural trends are very strong, including a shift from recycled to virgin fibers after a ban has been imposed by China on PET waste imports. Our weekly report covers the polyester chain in Asia, including PX (paraxylene), PTA (purified terephthalic acid), MEG (mono-ethylene glycol), polyester chips, and polyester staple and filament prices.
