US cotton apparel imports have fallen more significantly in the second quarter of the year than man-made fiber apparel imports. The shift by US buyers from cotton to cheaper man-made fiber apparel has been accelerated during the pandemic to limit the reduction in Chinese sourcing. Although the U.S. apparel imports have been halved in the second quarter, as a result of the pandemic, China's share of the market has slightly increased in volume terms thanks to a 20% fall in its unit prices. The US buyers have accepted to lower their quality requirements to keep a large part of their sourcing in Chinese hands. Our quarterly report details shipments to the U.S. market per origin, with volume and value changes, market shares, and unit value variations in the last five years.
