Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are looking for an experienced Ultraviolet Visible Near InfraRed Product Development Consultancy Support Consultant. You will support the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department, in particular the Atmospheric Composition Team. Your responsibilities will primarily be the provision of support to the development of calibration algorithms for the UVN mission on MTG. Development of prototype software, provision of support to the operational data processing software procurement activities, and preparation of associated documentation will be a primary focus area. Furthermore, provision of support to the development of an Instrument Data Simulator IDS is also in scope. Responsibilities Inhouse consultancy support is sought for the ongoing processor development activities in preparation for the future UVN instrument to be flown on MTGS. You will provide support within the Atmospheric Composition Team in the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of EUMETSAT. You will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the MTG Science and Instrument Teams. The tasks will typically include Provision of support to the development of algorithms for calibration of UVN level 0 data Provision of support to the development of an Instrument Data Simulator Taking into account the constraints imposed by the final goal of implementation of the products within an operational processing system Provision of support to the development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and validation the algorithms developed Provision of support to the development of an instrument performance model based on specifications to be provided by industry Provision of support to the development of software for crosscalibration and validation activities Generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products Provision of support to the generation of associated documentation including test data descriptions, Product Specification PS, technical reports etc Interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed Collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate Assessment of results from scientific studies Provision of support to operational level 2 processor development activities, for future level 2 product development for the UVN instrument. The tasks will evolve as the MTGUVN specifications mature and activities evolve in the coming years. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in ASAP. You will be based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany. Qualifications Competencies The UVN Level 1 product development consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. You should be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of moderate spectral resolution data in the UVVisibleNIR part of the spectrum and have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, a minimum of 5 years experience is required in the field of remote sensing product data processing and analysis including at least 2 years of experience of UVVisibleNIR calibration and validation. Further you should have a solid background in software engineering. You need to fulfill at least a significant subset of the following criteria Very good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C Working with UNIX andor Linux operating systems Specification, design and coding of complex product processors Testing and verification of complex data processing systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the optical spectrum Ultraviolet to NearInfrared Experience with instrument calibration and characterization Familiarity with Earth observation systems in operational meteorology, atmospheric composition and climate monitoring both remote sensing and in situ systems Writing concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Knowledge and experience in the following will be considered an advantage Quality control of satellite data and products Operational product processing environments Quality control of satellite data and products Knowledge of scripting languages e.g. python, Matlab, IDL, bash Knowledge of SQL Software build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure Source code control system, e.g. GIT, Subversion, or CVS Familiarity with radiative transfer. The Product Assurance Engineer will be part of the SES Resident Field Office located at the OHB facility in Bremen, Germany. The SES Field Offices are established at the manufacturer facilities to oversee all programme activities until the satellite is launched to ensure on quality, on cost and on schedule satellites that meet SES Customers needs. The Product Assurance Engineer is responsible for the quality standard of parts, materials and processes applied into the construction of the ELECTRA satellite. The Product Assurance Engineer shall ensure the contractual Product Assurance Plan is effectively and timely implemented for the ELECTRA programme, meeting contractual performance requirements, and maintaining SES reputation for technical excellence and delivery. The ELECTRA programme has two major phases and each phase will last approximately 36 months.
