USDA weekly weather update, July 22: Cool, dry air, soil moisture favor crop production in Plains, Midwest

Source: USDA Cool, dry air overspread the northern Plains and Upper Midwest. A lack of heat stress and abundant soil moisture continued to favor Midwestern corn and soybeans, although below-normal temperatures remained a concern with respect to crop development across the northern Corn Belt. read more

Source: USDA Rain intensified across the Upper Midwest, erasing vestiges of drought but halting fieldwork and triggering lowland flooding. Weekly totals of at least 4-8 inches were common across southern Minnesota, northern Iowa and parts of neighboring states, sending rivers out of their banks and in some cases to record-high levels. read more
