Ottawa to introduce legislation to end CP Rail strike

More than 3,000 striking Canadian Pacific Railway workers may be forced to abandon the picket lines if Ottawa introduces legislation on Monday forcing them back to work. A government source told The Canadian Press the federal government will table back-to-work legislation Monday morning to end the strike.

Cameron's 50m free wifi pledge for rail travellers will only benefit South-East, says MP

A LABOUR MP says Prime Minister David Cameron's pledge to spend A 50m to ensure all trains are fitted with free wi-fi will only benefit the South-East. Tom Blenkinsop, who represents Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said the plan to ensure passengers are better connected sounded grand, but claimed the region would miss out.

Rail strike in Canada may disrupt varied businesses across continent

About 3,000 locomotive engineers and conductors at the Canadian Pacific Railway walked off the job Sunday morning in a dispute over wages and benefits. Although the company said it would try to maintain some service by using managers, the strike is likely to disrupt major industries throughout North America, including automakers, oil companies, paper businesses, lumber suppliers and agriculture and mining companies.

BLET President blasts CP for unsafe rail practices and threatening employees

Dennis Pierce, National President of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and President of the Teamsters Rail Conference , blasted Canadian Pacific Railway today for its growing culture of threats and intimidation toward its employees in the U.S. and Canada. Pierce commented following CP's issuance of a letter to the BLET representatives on its U.S. operations, Soo Line and the Delaware & Hudson.
