(Telecompaper) As network quality improves, mobile subscribers globally are placing more importance on customer service and value when choosing an operator, according to a study conducted by Nokia. The study, which is a mobile industry barometer for consumer behavior, found five factors that have changed notably in the last two years. First, global mobile subscribers want more transparency when it comes to contract terms, rate structures and data fees. Second, respondents say customer care has 60 percent more impact on their loyalty than it did in 2014. Third, networks are getting better in mature markets, but there is work to do in transition markets. Fourth, mobile security is a growing issue with 90 percent of customers in mature markets and 94 percent in transition markets worrying about mobile security. Last, consumer expectations about IoT are growing.

Hulu announces 30% subs growth, new content, ad partners

(Telecompaper) On-demand streaming service Hulu announced that its subscriber base rose by more than 30 percent in a year and is set to reach 12 million subscribers in the US by the end of May. Speaking at the Hulu Upfront Presentation, CEO Mike Hopkins said the company would build on its incredible growth in subscribers and engagement by "going even bigger and bolder" in 2016. Hulu has secured exclusive US streaming VoD rights to Ron Howard's feature documentary, "The Beatles: Eight Days a Week", debuting in cinemas and on Hulu this autumn. The company also announced advertising-related collaboration with BrightLine, Havas Media, Nielsen and Milward Brown. Separately, Hopkins confirmed to the New York Times that Hulu plans to create a service combining both live and recorded programming from a reduced bundle of broadcast and cable channels.

North America to lose fewer pay TV subs

According to Digital TV Research, the number of pay TV subs in North America will fall from 112 million in 2012 to 106 million in 2021 with the number of non-pay TV homes climbing from 20.7 million to 33.3 million over the same period.
