(Telecompaper) Telenor reported underlying service revenues up 1 percent in the first quarter, in line with its full-year outlook for 1-2 percent growth in traffic and subscription revenue. growth was led by Grameenphone in Bangladesh, as well as Malaysia's Digi and the Scandinavian operations. Total reported revenues fell by 2 percent to NOK 27.1 billion due to negative currency effects. The adjusted EBITDA margin was up 4 percent points from a year ago to 41.7 percent, thanks to cost efficiency efforts.

America Movil Q4 losses widen on weaker peso, underlying revenue higher

(Telecompaper) America Movil saw its net loss nearly double in the fourth quarter, to MXN 11.3 billion from MXN 6.0 billion a year ago. The company was hurt by the depreciation in the Mexican peso versus the US dollar and euro. EBITDA rose 6.8 percent to MXN 70.2 billion, and operating profit was up 10.9 percent to MXN 28.6 billion, supported by improving economic conditions, the company said.

MTN sees underlying results improve in H1

(Telecompaper) MTN Group's revenue decreased by 18.5 percent to ZAR 64.315 billion in the first six months of 2017. Excluding currency effects, revenue rose 6.7 percent, underpinned by 10.8 percent growth in its largest market Nigeria and a 5.2 percent improvement in service revenue growth in South Africa. MTN Uganda, Ghana and Ivory Coast also contributed positively to the group's top-line growth. MTN Cameroon experienced a challenging period, negatively impacted by the data network shutdown in some parts of the country in the first quarter.

America Movil improves underlying results in Q3

(Telecompaper) America Movil reported an improvement in underlying third-quarter results, saying service revenues were stable year-on-year excluding currency effects compared to an annual decline in the previous quarter. Total revenues rose 11.8 percent to MXN 250 billion and were up 3.1 percent at constant exchange rates. EBITDA improved 1.5 percent to MXN 67.7 billion and fell 5.4 percent excluding forex effects, less than the 13.2 percent reduction in the prior quarter. The operator's net result improved to a profit of MXN 2.1 billion from a loss of MXN 2.9 billion a year ago.

BT earnings hit by Italian charge, underlying sales up 1.1%

(Telecompaper) BT said it booked a GBP 145 million non-cash writedown in its fiscal second quarter to September following an internal probe into "inappropriate management behaviour" in its BT Italia operations. The announcement came as the group posted a 35 percent increase in reported revenue in the period to GBP 6.007 billion, thanks mainly to the EE acqusition. On a pro forma basis and excluding transit revenues, sales were up 1.1 percent year-on-year, led by growth in the consumer division.
