HMD Global raises USD 100 mln to accelerate Nokia phone sales

(Telecompaper) HMD Global, the maker of Nokia brand phones, announced that it has raised USD 100 million from multiple investors to help scale business operations and fund the company's growth in its second year. This round of investment was led by Geneva-based Ginko Ventures, with participation from DMJ Asia Investment Opportunity and Wonderful Stars, a subsidiary of FIH Mobile.
Nokia to sell Digital Health business to Withings co-founder Carreel

(Telecompaper) Nokia announced that it entered into exclusive negotiations for the sale of its Digital Health business, following a strategic review announced in mid-February. The company had expanded into the healthcare market in April 2016, acquiring French start-up Withings for EUR 170 million and integrating it within its Nokia Technologies operations. Two years on, it now plans to resell the assets to Withings' co-founder Eric Carreel for an undisclosed sum.

Nokia profit, sales fall in Q1 but guidance upbeat for 2018 on faster start to 5G

(Telecompaper) Nokia said it faced a challenging first quarter and reiterated its guidance for lower earnings in 2018 as it puts more money into testing 5G services. For Q1, net sales fell 9 percent from the year before to EUR 4.9 billion, with sales declining 12 percent at Networks but rising 48 percent at Nokia Technologies, the company's licensing business. On a constant currency basis, net sales were flat, but Nokia said it sees the market improving in H2, thanks to a faster start to 5G.
