Joe Greenslade receives award for work on fastener standards.

Joe Greenslade, director of engineering technology at the Industrial Fasteners Institute in Independence, OH, has received the Fred F. Weingruber Award from ASTM International Committee F16 on Fasteners. An ASTM member since 1994, Greenslade works on multiple F16 subcommittees, as well as on Committee B08 on Metallic and Inorganic Coatings. He mainly specializes in mechanical fastener design, applications, manufacturing, and quality, and holds 13 U.S. patents.

Rogue second hand car dealers and dodgy garages targeted by Somerset trading standards

The service across Somerset and Devon - which receives more than 2,000 complaints about used vehicles and servicing every year - has inspected 56 forecourts, garages and traders selling used tyres since last April. Officers also booked a car into garages offering free safety checks to test if defects reported by the trader were genuine.

ASTM International Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys presented Gary M. Kralik Distinguished Service Award to consultant Michael Gold of Gold Metallurgical Services LLC (North Benton, OH). Specifically, committee noted Gold's service as member (since 1979) as well as key contributions to Subcommittee on Refined Nickel and Cobalt and Their Alloys (B02.07). Gold is also active on Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys.
