In this position you shall become the technical responsible Systems Engineer for the Focal Plane Systems of one of our Earth Observation or Science projects. Your Tasks Elaboration, development and accommodation of technical baseline solutions on basis of customer requirements and budgets Technical coordination of a multidiscipline engineering team with the focus on an the following output Focal Plane Architecture Definition and Justification Interface Concepts and Definition Development Logic Definition Coordination of related performance analysis Select and define the system design and to reflect it into the relevant technical design, requirement and performance documentation Ensure design integrity, perform requirements analysis and design integration as answer to customer specifications Ensure proper flowdown and allocation of lower level subssystem requirements and budgets and maintain them up to date during the program lifetime Lead the engineering team effort for design tradeoffs between disciplines such as thermal, structural, mechanical, optical, electrical, etc. Lead Focal Plane system level integration and verification effort with focus on electrooptical characterization Definition and realization of electrooptical verification setups Evaluation of electrooptical data generated by supplier at OHB laboratory Contribute to OHB technology development process in the context of focal planes and detector technology Support technical discussion with the customer Provide and coordinate support to subcontractors selection and control Your Qualifications University TU or polytechnic degree in Physics or Engineering Organised and structured task approach, experience in technical coordination of a multidisciplinary international engineering team 5 years experience as Systems Engineer or Design Responsible for scientific focal plane assemblies and associated technology, ideally for space applications Ideally, experience in the development logic of space projects, as well as significant HW experience in the Phases C and D including electrooptical characterization Experience in engineering economics Organised and structured task approach, experience in technical coordination of a multidisciplinary engineering team. Team work, good conceptual, analytical and organizational skills Good communication and negotiation skills Fluency in spoken and written English, German skills requested over the mediumterm

Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Systems Engineer at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. This role will allow the right candidate to shape solutions for our missions. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Development of spacecraft mission and system design including requirements derivation and CONOPS definition. Performing mission analysis and modelling of spacecraft missions. Tradeoff and control platform systems budgets e.g. mass, power, data, fuel. Production of missionlevel test and verification plans. Production of missionlevel FMECA, FTA and FDIR. Performing rapid feasibility studies into different scenarios and architectures. Assisting with bid work, providing technical solutions and documentation. Maintaining configuration control of systems work and documentation Working with and guiding a multidisciplined team in the delivery of projects. Essential Skills Diploma bachelor or masters degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering or other relevant discipline. 3 years of commercial experience in a Systems Engineering role for satellites. Knowledge of the systems and project engineering lifecycle from requirements definition through to verification, including experience of leading or planning for project review gates in satellite engineering e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, etc. Experience in mission and systems architecture definition and CONOPS, especially understanding of both space and ground segment interaction. Good knowledge of a range of subsystems engineering teams including GNC AOCS, ADCS, astrodynamics, CDH OBDH, EPS, RCS propulsion, COM communications, software, ground segment operations. Experience in the development of systems engineering documentation working with a Project Manager as needed requirements, CONOPS, review gate materials, test and verification plans procedures, DDVP, ICDs, equipment lists, FMECA FTAs Awareness of the AIT process manufacture, assembly, functional and environmental testing. A basic knowledge in the following areas debris removal, endoflife, inorbit maintenance or servicing. Desired Skills 5 years of commercial experience in a Systems Engineering role for satellites. An understanding of, or experience in other project matters project management, procurement, bid support, manufacturing. Knowledge of commonly used engineering and modelling packages e.g. ModelSim, Matlab, STK andor coding and scripting languages e.g. Python applied to real world engineering applications. Knowledge of the area around debris removal including licensing, export, regulation, space law. Knowledge of past missions of relevance RemoveDebris, CleanSpace ESA projects e.g. e.DeOrbit, DEOS, ATV, ETS7 Whilst the working language across all Astroscale divisions is English, proficiency in spoken andor written Japanese would be considered an asset.
