Seed Science: Seed Germination

2013-04-19 21:55:00| Corn & Soybean Digest

Alex Johnson, CCA, Agronomist Think about what one single seed does for you as a farmer. A single corn seed that weighs 1/100th of an ounce has the ability to be placed in dirt, germinate, grow into a plant 7-10+ ft. tall and multiply the grain yield 500 fold. No manmade machine possesses an equivalent ability to perform a comparable feat. read more

This month has seen some fundamental steps forward for the technology, including one proof of concept in which the US Navy shot down a drone. We finally seem to be on the brink of realizing the dreams of men like Edward Teller and Ronald Reagan, and of the generation they convinced that lasers would keep them safe.

Climate Desk: On February 17, more than 40,000 climate change activists--many of them quite young--rallied in Washington, DC, to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline, which will transport dirty tar sands oil from Canada across the heartland. The scornful response from media centrists was predictable. Joe Nocera of the New York Times, for one, quickly went on the attack. In a column titled "How Not to Fix Climate Change," he wrote that the strategy of activists "who have made the Keystone pipeline their line in the...
