We are looking to further enhance our team by adding a Science Support Consultant short term assignment You will be based at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. In this large European Agency you will find an excellent and modern working environment with challenging tasks and responsibilities. Your Tasks The activities for this consultancy will include scientific aspects related to the development of the product processing facilities of the EPSSG ground segment. The consultant will work in a matrix structure providing crossdivisional support and be hosted in the Remote Sensing and Products Division of the Technical and Science Support Department. The tasks and responsibilities will include Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial calibrationvalidation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies System meetings and activities of instrument functional chain teams IFCT Participation in reviews. The support will involve close crossdivisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines system engineering, instruments, operations, science. Your Profile The consultant shall have the following experience and background University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing in optical and or microwave imaging Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Java Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum level of supervision Good interpersonal skills in support of team work. The following experience would be an additional asset Experience in understanding and writing requirements Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains Experience with calibration and product validation methods Knowledge in radiative transfer. Fluency in English is mandatory and the consultant must be able to work effectively in this language. In this context, the candidate will be involved in three main activities Support the scientific development, definition and technical supervision of science projects, carried out by external teams of experts and scientists, addressing mainly EO for ocean colour, ocean biology and ecosystem research, CO2 fluxes and seaair interactions, acidification and ocean carbon cycle science. Support the ESA interface and dialogue with the relevant scientific communities, including international science groups such as SOLAS, IMBER, IOCCG, etc Carry out a dedicated research focusing on the scientific exploitation of European and other EO missions with special focus on fostering new methods, algorithm, products and innovative science results with special focus on the ocean carbon cycle and its physical and biochemistry components.
