Nvidia details 64-bit Denver Tegra K1, claims Haswell-class performance for first 64-bit Android chip
2014-08-12 13:38:57| Extremetech
Nvidia has finally taken the wraps off its 64-bit Denver CPU core -- and, well, let's just say that the 64-bit Android race just got a lot more interesting. The Denver CPU will be available later this year in the Tegra K1 SoC, where you'll get two Denver cores and a 192-core Kepler GPU. Nvidia says this will be the first 64-bit ARM chip for Android, and that it "completely outpaces" other ARM SoCs. The Denver CPU is so beastly that it even beats out some PC-class chips (the low-end Haswell Celeron), while consuming much less power. The secret behind this performance boost is a novel technology called Dynamic Code Optimization.

Google ships 64-bit Chrome for OS X
2014-08-06 13:42:38| InfoWorld: Top News
Google has promoted the 64-bit version of Chrome for Windows to the browser's more stable Beta distribution channel, and boosted Chrome for OS X to 64-bit on the more preliminary Canary and Dev builds. Chrome for Windows 64-bit shifted to Beta on July 30 after about two months on the less-polished Canary and Dev lines. Google has touted the 64-bit version as more stable and faster than its 32-bit predecessor, which has been the Chrome standard since its 2008 debut.
Red Hat aims at standardization with Linux for 64-bit ARM servers
2014-07-30 21:44:18| InfoWorld: Top News
Red Hat has developed a version of the Linux operating system that can be used to test chips and associated hardware based on the ARMv8-A 64-bit architecture for servers with the aim of standardizing that market. Based on the company's RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux), the Linux distribution is part of a partner program that Red Hat launched Wednesday for potential ARM hardware vendors.
