ARM says $20 smartphones coming this year, shows off 64-bit Cortex-A53 and A57 performance

2014-05-06 19:32:32| Extremetech

At its rather exclusive ARM Tech Day 2014 in Austin, the British company has given us more details on the future of its mobile efforts -- in specific, its upcoming Cortex-A53 and -A57 CPU cores. ARM also said that, after passing the the $60 mark last year, the cheapest Android phones will be just $20 "in the next few months." According to ARM, these cheap devices will cause the low- and mid-range smartphone and tablet markets to more than double over the next five years, resulting in almost 2.5 billion total mobile device shipments by 2018... and they'll (probably) all use ARM chips.

RTOS Modules support 64-bit ARMv8-based MPUs.

2014-04-16 14:30:30| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today

Supporting ARMv8 architecture in Cortex-A50 series, uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III bring Micrium RTOS ecosystem to next generation of 64-bit application processors and SoCs. Kernel ports for ARM Cortex-A50 are designed for versatility, facilitating usage of ARMv8 features by developers through configuration. Typically targeting high-performance, standalone, real-time critical tasks, uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III can also work transparently under hypervisor. RTOS solution can also be used as secure kernel. Qualcomm adds fastest ever 64-bit Snapdragon mobile chip

2014-04-07 14:09:26| InfoWorld: Top News

Qualcomm is getting high on 64-bit chips with its fastest ever Snapdragon processor, which will render 4K video, support LTE Advanced and could run the 64-bit Android OS. The new Snapdragon 810 is the company's "highest performing" mobile chip for smartphones and tablets, Qualcomm said in a statement. Mobile devices with the 64-bit chip will ship in the first half of next year, and be faster and more power-efficient. Snapdragon chips are used in handsets with Android and Windows Phone operating systems, which are not available in 64-bit form yet.

Apple dominates 64-bit mobile chips as Android rivals lag

2014-03-12 16:07:56| InfoWorld: Top News

Apple dominates 64-bit mobile chip devices as rival smartphone makers wait for a 64-bit version of the Android OS, but that early lead could dissipate in the next four years, ABI Research said on Tuesday. The first 64-bit version of the Android OS is expected in the second half of the year. This will boost the adoption of 64-bit-compliant handsets and tablets, ABI said.
