Instrument Data Processing System Architect

Our client, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. They are seeking consultancy support to focus on endtoend instrument chains, from acquisition of signals by instruments on board the satellites up to dissemination of derived products to End Users by the ground segment. The consultant would be involved in tasks such as specifications of onground data processing chains, definition of their interfaces, definition of space to ground data flows, verification and validation of onground data processing chains for imaging and sounding instruments. The coordination with different teams involved in these activities plays a key role given the interdisciplinary nature of endtoend instrument chains. The Consultant shall have the following mandatory skills and experience University degree in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent At least 5 years of experience in engineering of onground data processing elements, including requirements specification, architecture and detailed design, definition of interfaces and testing concepts for spaceborne observing systems as imaging andor sounding instruments Demonstrated ability to perform analyses of a System combined space and ground segment top down and to perform syntheses. Tasks The Data Services team is responsible for the development, maintenance and evolution of all data accessdistribution and longterm data archivingretrieval services. The team develops unified solutions that fulfill both the increasing needs of the current operational programmes as well as the additional requirements from the future programmes. EUMETCast is one of the multimission data distribution services that is used to send files data and products to a geographically dispersed user community. This service is implemented using IP multicast over both satellitebased networks DVBSDVBS2 on commercial geostationary telecommunication satellites and WANbased networks GEANT. As a member of the Data Services team, the key person shall provide system architecture engineering support primarily for the evolution, maintenance and routine operations of the EUMETCast service. This includes the multicast servers, multicast networks and multicast receivers.
