(Telecompaper) Opposition against Sunrise acquiring Liberty Global's Swiss business seems to be rising and it remains to be seen whether the firm will find enough support for the rights issue that it needs for the deal. Telenor launched its tender offer for the remaining shares in Finnish DNA. Play Communications was the biggest winner in week 35 and is also doing very well on a year-to-date basis.

Telenor completes DNA acquisition, starts buy-out offer on 29 August

(Telecompaper) Finnish operator DNA has announced the completion of its acquisition by Norwegian telecommunications company Telenor. The agreement to acquire 54 percent of DNA's shares at EUR 20.90 each from Finda Telecoms and PHP Holding was announced in April. Telenor has now declared that the mandatory public tender offer for the outstanding shares will start on 29 August.

(Telecompaper) A number of mergers and investments, as well as Q2's first earnings reports, set the tone in the telecoms sector, last week. The winners included Turk Telekom (+5.8%), Rostelecom (+5.5%), Intelsat (+5.4%) and Altice Europe (+5.4%). That could however not prevent the Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services to end week 29 down 1.4 percent, lagging the EuropStoxx 50 (-0.5%). Several German shares were the biggest losers, including 1&1 Drillisch (-13%), United Internet (-10%) and Tele Columbus (-7.7%).

Telenor lowers FY outlook to flat revenues on tough Asian markets

(Telecompaper) Telenor has lowered its full year outlook to flat underlying revenues and a small decline in EBITDA, due to weaker results at its Asian activities. Nevertheless, the company said its strategy was on track, with an EBITDA margin of nearly 40 percent in Q2 and progress in accelerating revenues and reducing costs.
