Telecom Satellite Payload Engineer Quantum Project

For one of our main customers ESA, we are currently looking for a Telecom Satellite Payload Engineer, who will give support to the Quantum Project located at ECSAT in Oxfordshire, UK. Tasks and Responsibilities The Payload Engineer reports primarily to the Quantum Payload Manager in the Telecommunications and Integrated Applications Directorate, Telecommunication Satellite Programmes Department and will be responsible for monitoring various performances and engineering aspects of satellite payloads. Monitoring payload units development, integration and testing Monitoring the coherent and costeffective implementation of payload requirements from system level down to the lower application level Working in Partnership with Satellite Operators to ensure that the payload equipment development proceeds in a timely and pragmatic manner whilst maintaining the original innovative nature of the payload Working with the industrial team to ensure that the design and performance of payload meets its specified requirements, including software, subsystem and unit performances Analysing predicted performance parameters of payload and monitoring these throughout the project phases Ensuring the adequacy of relevant operational requirements to control and operate the payload Supporting payload and lowerlevel reviews, as well as supporting spacecraft level reviews and any nonconformance reviews Regular reporting to his programme Payload Manager In the execution of the tasks, the Payload Engineer will liaise closely and proactively with the rest of the Quantum Project team as well as with other Project Teams within the Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department. Experience and education Applicants for this post should have a Master degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics, together with substantial experience minimum of 4 years in Designing and developing of one or more onboard RF equipment including LNAs, frequency converters, channel amplifiers, digital processor, multiplexers, filters, EPCs and satellite antennas. Systems and strategic thinking, results orientation, responsible risktaking decisionmaking, and relationship management are considered important. Applicants should be able to work well in a team and communicate effectively. The successful candidate should demonstrate proven technical capabilities, in particular in the mechanicalstructural engineering field, and the capacity to apply analytical and sound judgment to resolve problems pragmatically. The Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills, attention to detail, resourcefulness and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Proficient in English knowledge of another ESA member state language is an asset. Tasks and Responsibilities You will be integrated into the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Copernicus Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. Your tasks will typically include Support to the commissioning and routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B comprising Provision of operational expertise to their relevant system platform or instrument in particular, with support to other platform subsystems and or payload instruments and or onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you should have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills, with a particular emphasis on relevant Systems of their work assignment relevance Experience of at least 2 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 1 year of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
