Court rejects Apple's false advertising claim against Amazon

(Telecompaper) The court has rejected Apple's earlier claim that Amazon's use of "Appstore" to describe its Android application marketplace was false advertising, according to a Bloomberg report. Apple had filed a trademark lawsuit in 2011, stating that Amazon's use of the term "appstore" could cause confusion among customers. In September 2012, Amazon asked a federal judge to dismiss Apple's false advertising claim. This rejection only represents a partial summary judgement in the trademark case; the decision regarding trademark infringement has not yet been decided. Apple tried to register a patent for "App Store" in 2008, but Microsoft opposed it on the grounds that it was a generic term. The patent office is waiting for the decision of the trial scheduled for 19 August.

The $325 11.6-inch Chromebook from Samsung is now at the top of Amazon's laptop sales. Even more interesting is that two more Chromebooks are currently sitting in the Amazon's top twenty. While Google's ChromeOS hasn't taken the world by storm the way that its mobile operating system has, three Chromebooks sitting in the top twenty best selling laptops is no small feat.
