Riverbend warns of potential increased odor

A communication sent out last week by Waste Management Inc. Senior District Manager William Carr and Communications Director Jackie Lang said there may be increased odor and unsightly visual impacts in the coming months for Riverbend Landfill's surrounding neighbors and passers-by on Highway 18.

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is about to issue a permit that will allow the Riverbend Landfill to continue to operate for a couple more years. Riverbend, owned by Waste Management, is a garbage dump - 82 acres wide and 130 feet tall. Years ago, I thought it was good that Yamhill County had its own dump, but I've changed my mind.
