Job description Our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany has been delegated by the EU to deliver operational data services for Jason3 and Sentinel3 Marine altimetry products as part of its Copernicus responsibilities. Aspects of these services include operational data processing in near real time and offline, quality monitoring, calibrationvalidation and continuous improvement as well as implementation of new services based on user requirements. At this time, we are seeking an experienced Altimeter Data Processing Expert to provide consultancy support for activities mainly related to the data processing, quality and evolution of the Copernicus Sentinel3 and Jason 3 altimetry products. The expert will be part of the Altimetry team of the Marine Applications section of the Remote Sensing and Products Division RSP at EUMETSAT. Responsibilities As an Altimeter Data Processing Expert and reporting to the EUMETSAT Altimetry Team Leader, your tasks will typically include Supporting the transition of Jason3 and Sentinel3A from the commissioning to routine operations phase Contribution to altimetry calval and quality control activities Analysis and correction of anomalies in the altimeter processing chains Supporting the commissioning and calval of Sentinel3B Specification and prototyping of evolutions of the altimeter data processing chains Contributing to operational data processor operation and maintenance activities Specification, implementation and evolution of operational quality monitoring tools Specification, implementation and evolution of product performance monitoring and reporting tools Maintenance and evolution of preprocessing and postprocessing elements This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in August 2016. You will be nominally based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany, but travel within Europe will be necessary to follow the Copernicus activities. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you will have as a prerequisite a demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and operation of altimeter products processing systems. This experience shall include at least five years Experience in algorithm development for operational Earth Observation missions Experience in operational scientific data processing implementations Experience in scientific coding on Unixbased platforms inC, C, or Fortran Detailed knowledge of established altimeters, e.g. ERS12 RA, Envisat RA2, CryoSat SIRAL, SARALAltiKa, Jason12, etc. In addition, knowledge of the following would be a distinct advantage Experience with large, complex processing systems with stringent timeliness and availability requirements Knowledge of DelayDoppler Synthetic Aperture Radar altimetry techniques Experience in processing, analysis, and calval of altimeter data Experience in interfacing with scientific organisations and user communities The position requires excellent interpersonal, communication and reporting skills, combined with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore you must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other.
