Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Astronaut Ground Personnel Instructor mf The training of astronauts and cosmonauts before their spaceflight as well as the training of the ground control teams are essential to the success of the missions to the International Space Station. All crew and ground personnel training for the European experiments, equipment and module is performed at the European Astronaut Centre Cologne, Germany by a team of dedicated and certified instructors. Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Astronaut Centre EAC in Cologne, Germany, but might include exceptional travel in Europe, U.S. or Russia. The position will cover the following tasks and responsibilities and includes certification training Training design, development and implementation Identification and analysis of training requirements based on documentation and interaction with engineers, operations engineers and scientists. Design and development of lessons plans materials according to ESA standards. Utilisation of the Astronaut Training Development Implementation System ATD to document all information related to lessons. Implementation of dryruns and lessons updates. Implementation of lessons with crew andor ground personnel. Trainee evaluation and reporting. Support to European and Integrated international partner simulations Support the development of simulation scenarios and failures. Support the simulation execution as crew surrogate or observer. If required later on, become simulation director and preparecoordinate simulation events. Other Attend successfully complete the necessary courses and tests in order to obtain the instructors certification. Support offline reviews of crew and ground ODF procedures payload andor systems related. Support debriefings with astronauts, returning from a space mission. Support training team information sharing and action item tracking. Participate in regular coordination meetings and teleconferences. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a University degree or equivalent in Aerospace Engineering or in Sciences. The following knowledge andor experience are considered as assets Knowledge of ISS and Columbus Laboratory subsystems or with scientific experiments on ISS, Knowledge andor experience of Human spaceflight operations processes and tools, Experience with technical training including eLearning, video learning, etc Furthermore, you are required to have following skills Ability andor experience in public speaking and presentation, preferably in an educational or training context. Fluent in English oral and written knowledge of another member state language is an asset. Proficient with presentationtext editing tools Powerpoint, Microsoft Word or similar. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including via remote collaboration with hardware manufacturers, scientists, operations centres. High level of flexibility and willingness to travel when required. Good organizational and communication skills.
