Cotton futures have plunged at the end of last week in New York after US President Trump has announced new punitive tariffs on Chinese imports. Beyond short-term rhetoric, the trade war has profoundly disrupted the textile and apparel markets, meaning that demand for cotton in the new season 2019-20 could be significantly lower than expected.
